• Boalloy is launching a more basic, cheaper and lighter version of its flagship Tautliner curtainsider in a bid to win back small haulage customers.
The body will come in 7.5 and 17-tonne versions which are 150kg and 200kg lighter than their Tautliner counterparts, says Boalloy. A prototype is being built on a 17-tonne Volvo chassis.
The Tautliner has traditionally appealed to rental customers such as CTR and TIP. With that market in decline Boalloy wants to draw back small firms which have tended to use cheaper bodybuilders for one-off purchases of curtainsiders, says managing director Gerald Broadbent.
Boalloy launched a basic box van design, called The Van, last spring (CM 4-10 April 1991).
