• An industrial tribunal chairman may be asked to stand down after being accused of prejudice by TNT during a hearing into the dismissal of more than 20 of its employees.
TNT's complaint against John Haslam was due to be heard by an appeal tribunal as CM went to press.
George Lawson, head of group employee relations, says: "TNT feel that certain of the chairman's remarks were preju dicial to us having a fair hearing."
The former TNT employees have claimed that they were unfairly dismissed by the company last year following a stoppage over new working schedules at the company's parcels depot in Cannock, Staffs, TNT said it was the first strike it had suffered since it set up in the UK 13 years ago.
The tribunal began in Birmingham last week; it is expected to continue until February.
