• Unauthorised use of vehicles and vehicle excise duty offences cost Jolly Roger Trucking £16,414,93 in fines, back duty and costs, when the company appeared before the Sittingbourne magistrates.
The court heard that a major investigation had revealed that Jolly Roger had continued to operate after the refusal of its application for an 0-Licence in July of last year had meant that their interim authority had come

to an end. Vehicles had been run from various dates without valid excise licences after a cheque, issued by a previous company from whom Jolly Roger had taken over the hire of the vehicles, had failed to clear.
For the company, it was said that it had ceased to trade in March and would now go into liquidation.
The magistrates fined the company £4,400, and ordered it to pay £11,864.93 back vehicle excise duty and £150 prosecution costs.
