Although MAN has many years of experience of building double-deck city buses of integral construction this is the first example of a specially-designed low-height 12rn chassis for use in coach construction. Designated 22.280 HOCLIN, the three-axle chassis is offered in left or right-hand drive versions and is powered by a longitud imply, rear-mounted vertical 11.5 litre D 2566 MTO engine developing 206 kW at 2200 rpm.

The Goppel (Augsburg) body for Japan is distinguished by very large front screens on lower and upper decks with a slight rake to the leading side windows. Designed for a gvw of 22 tonnes the new MAN chassis has U-section main members with bolted-in cross members.
Overall height of the vehicles for Japan is 3.8m, but another order already received for the first lhd units (for Kompass Tours of Yugoslavia) will have full-height bodies of 4m.
