l'HE TRUCK DRIVER health check CM hosted at Lymm Services last week provides a frightening insight into the health of truck drivers in the UK.
"These results are very worrying," says CM editor Andy Salter. "Clearly, despite the findings of our recent survey into the eating habits of truckers, which indicated drivers were taking healthy eating seriously, there is still major work to be done."
Jane DeVille-Almond. one of the nurses who carried out the health checks and administered the survey, offers a stark warning: "It's not just the fear of dying which should be worry drivers, "If you're overweight. with high blood pressure and high cholesterol, then you're at serious risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, or having a stroke or heart attack.
"Suffer that and the likelihood is you'll be severely impaired for the rest of your life," she adds. "We are urging truck drivers and any other men to recognise the dangers of being overweight and treat their health seriously."
