The disabled man who stole an artic full of Ribena after his heroin dealer told him to has escaped a jail sentence; instead Gerald Grey was ordered to do 200 hours of community service. Grey, who had been banned from driving just 11 days before the incident, was spotted by the truck's owner. Richard Read, who happened to be driving in the opposite direction as it left his firm's yard. Police caught Grey after Read gave chase.
Sentencing Grey at Gloucester Crown Court, Judge Peter Thomas told him: "You became involved with people who deal in drugs and, as a result of that involvement, committed the offence. I have been persuaded, very reluctantly, not to send you to prison."
