A SCOTTISH operator was ordered to pay fines and costs of £548 after it admitted using an unauthorised operating centre. James Moffat & Sons (Cardenden) of Dalgety Bay,Fife had pleaded guilty by letter to the Harlow magistrates. Anthony Ostrin, prosecuting for VOSA, told the court that traffic examiner David Moulton-Treadwell had been on duty on the A13 in Essex when he checked an Iveco three-axled artic that was being operated by Moffat.
Moulton-Treadwell reported that during his inspection of the vehicle he had noted the lack of an 0-licence identity disc.
Subsequent inquiries by Vosa had revealed that the company was operating vehicles from a depot in South Mimms but did not hold an operator's licence in the South Eastern & Metropolitan Traffic Area authorising that centre.
In its letter to the court the company said it was intending to apply for an 0-licence in the South Mimms area. It was fined £400 with £148 costs.
