• Inter-modal drawbar outfits are taking over from artics as the key vehicles at McKellar Trucking, a long-established international haulier based in Rainham, Essex.
The change coincides with a new contract with Nedlloyd, to provide a daily ar tic trunking service between the Dutch group's 'districenters' in Paris and Barking.
McKellar has 15 artics but now runs 22 drawbars built to Europe's common Germanled specification for road/rail traffic. The fleet was boosted by eight rigs bought recently from Midlands-based forwarder MIS Transport, and more trucks are likely to be bought this summer, says operations manager Danny Bungay.
The drawbars, built by Weschel Bruchen of Germany, allow McKellar to plug into Europe's road/rail system on both sides of the Channel, says Bungay.
