• David Griffin, trading as DJ Transport of Melton Mowbray, along with one of his drivers, has been fined a total of £1,435 for using a vehicle without an 0-licence and for hours offences.

Griffin pleaded guilty before Birmingham City magistrates to three offences of using a vehicle without an Operator's Licence: one offence of using it without a test certificate; and one offence of failing to ensure a driver handed in tachograph charts within 21 days.

Driver Nicholas Seymour, of Sherwood Drive, Melton Mowbray, pleaded guilty to three offences of exceeding 41 hours' driving without the required break; one offence of exceeding the daily driving limit; and one offence of failing to hand tachograph charts to his employer within 21 days.

Traffic examiner Val Bradin said that when a lorry driven by Seymour was stopped in a check on the M6 at Perry Barr, no 0-licence was on display. There was no current test certificate to be found, although overdue charts were unearthed.

Hours offences came to light when the charts were subsequently examined, On being interviewed Griffin admitted the vehicle had been used without authority. He could find no test certificate for the vehicle in question.

Magistrates fined Seymour £600 and Griffin £.795, plus a further £20 each in costs.
