• The Labour Party is promising a "London-wide transport strategy" if elected, which would include ensuring that there are at least six buses an hour on main routes; priority for buses and cyclists on roads and more powers for councils to control noise. Trucks are not mentioned in its document, London: a world-class capital — but Labour says "traffic restraint" will be a key objective.
Transport spokesman John Prescott says a proposed orbital railway round London would encourage freight off the roads.
