ERF EXHIBITED a prototype 16ton rigid, code named QM, at the Motor Show this week, using air suspension on front and rear axles. An A-frame, forming part of the rear suspension, prevents torque wind-up under acceleration and braking as well as providing for and aft location for the axle. Lateral location is achieved by Panhard rod.
The apex of the A-frame is supported by a trunnion, developed and patented by Dunlop's automotive engineering division, through which the prop shaft passes on its way to the drive axle. The cab is supported by separate air suspension.
