With more than 50 years in industry and a wealth of experience, transport veteran Millard reckons he knows just the man for the job himself.
"Hoon will just drift along like all the rest," says Millard. "You've got to be doing the job for a long while in order to be effective, and he does not have the qualifications or skills needed."
Millard's transport manifesto ranges from overhauling truckstops to creating parkand-share schemes around cities in which commuters can leave their cars and share a ride with others, ensuring cars entering built-up areas are full and empty ones are not taking up valuable road space.
"Another big issue is road safety," says the Cabinet minister-in-waiting. "There should be hundreds more emergency lay-bys put in along motorways. "If you're crawling along with a problem, it means you can get clear of the hard shoulder."
This, Millard believes, would alleviate the problem of broken-down vehicles and recovery trucks clogging up hard shoulders, imperilling the lives of motorists and mechanics alike.
