Whether Clarkson could find time to shake up the transport industry when he's so busy as a TV presenter and newspaper columnist remains open to question. But he has one of the key attributes shared by other nominees put forward by panel members: he calls a spade a spade.
"He wouldn't care what he said or who he said it to as long as things got fixed," says Burke. 'Neither would he care for all this political correctness — and he would kick the green lobby into touch."
