THE Scottish Deputy Licensing L Authority last week granted permission to Mr_ J. P. Burgess, Boat of Garten, to withdraw his bus services to Grantown on Spey, Kingussie and Newtonnaore during the winter. Mr. Burgess said that from October, 1954, to April, 1955, he covered 19,412 miles and his takings were £675. This worked out to 81d. per mile, whereas a reasonable return would be Is. 6d.
Capt. Desmond Thompson, a member of Inverness County Council, said that the railway service between Boat of Garten and Craigellachie was likely to be withdrawn. The Badenoch community were faced with a serious situation and Capt. Thompson suggested that a recommendation be made to the Scottish Transport Users' Consultative Committee.
The Authority promised to keep matters under review.
PRUNING KEEPS FARES DOWN
A PPROVING cuts in bus services in r-1 the Stroud area by Bristol Tramways and Carriage Co., Ltd., last week, the chairman of the Western Licensing Authority, Mr. S. W. Nelson, said that they helped to stave off the " inevitable " increase in fares.
" Before we authorize increases in fares," he continued, "we do insist on the company pruning their dead twigs. We have got to be realistic."
ADAM GROUP CHANGES HANGES have been made in the organization of the Adam group, which consists of Adam (New Forest), Ltd., the parent concern, and two subsidiaries, Hampshire Gar Bodies, Ltd., and L. Young and Co., Ltd.
Hampshire Car Bodies and L. Young and Co. have been wound up and the name of the parent company has been changed to Hampshire Car Bodies, Ltd. The new Hampshire Car Bodies, Ltd., are to take over and be responsible for all assets and liabilities of the group. There is no difference in the management, resources and working of the organization.
The business of L. Young and Co.. Ltd., is now a department of Hampshire Car BOdies, Ltd., and works under the name of L. Young and Co.
HAULAGE INSTEAD OF FARMING
PAA FARMER, whose land had been requisitioned for opencast coal working, successfully applied to the Northern Deputy Licensing Authority, last week, to run two vehicles to carry opencast coal and scggar clay within 25 miles.
Mr. A. Elliott, Middle Farm, Great Lumley, Co. Durham,the applicant, said that he would surrender the licence immediately his farm was restored to him. Objections by two hauliers were withdrawn.
