TWENTY years' experience went into I a sterling performance by Bernard Burgess, of British Road Services, Leeds, who, with a Seddon parcels van which he drives on the trunk route from Leeds to Coventry, gained 83i marks out of a possible 100. He scored the highest points and won the Yorkshire Evening News trophy.

The contest-the first eliminating round to be held in the north-attracted 76 entries from areas as wide apart as Liverpool and North Shields, _Sheffield and Doncaster. The 10-mile observed road section was an outstanding feature and was the deciding factor in placing D. Huddlesto'he (Seddon, H. Sheard, Pontefract) third in Group D.
