THE REASONS for the breakdown of the Scania/Volvo merger plan are still not clear.
Although it has been suggested that the merger has merely been postponed, rather than abandoned, the two interested parties remain non-committal.
Volvo managing director Sten Langenius said at Frankfurt: "Last August, we decided to go our own way. We couldn't wait for Scania and we have had no discussions since."
From Scania, the reaction was: "We have come through a sticky patch and survived. Now, we are going ahead."
If nothing else, this would seem to scotch rumours that the replacement for the Volvo F86 would have a Scania cab.
