CAR TRANSPORTER specialist STVA UK is facing renewed uncertainty over its contract with Jaguar following a decision to cease car production at the Browns Lane factory in Coventry A threat of industrial action among the 25 drivers working on the contract has still not been lifted, despite an improved pay offer.
Bob Shaw,Transport & General Workers Union regional industrial officer, says the transfer of car production to Castle Bromwich in Birmingham is of serious concern. But he adds: "I don't believe any of them 'the drivers] will lose their jobs."
A pay offer to drivers was increased from 2.5% to 3% after the union decided to ballot them on strike action (CM 15 July). Another ballot is now being conducted about whether to accept the revised offer.
Shaw says STVA's original plan to withhold the first three days of drivers' sick pay has now been scrapped.
STVA declined to comment about either the production transfer or the pay offer.
