MANCHESTER-BASED haulier AK Worthington is investing £750,000 in 40 new Lawrence David trailers, which will provide 70% more capacity.
Ihe new trailers are 0.5m taller than others in its fleet, growing capacity by a fifth, which is ideal for customers wanting to transport lightweight freight such as packaging, clothing, furnishings and paper products, says the haulier.
"We expect to see UK businesses continue to shake off the recession and for the economy to grow over the next year. With this in mind, we want to ensure we are in a position to offer our new and existing customers greater flexibility to transport more of their goods," says Jason Bradley, operations manager for AK Worthington.
The firm, which is part of the AKW Group based at Trafford Park, has invested in more fuel-efficient truck s,driver training anal 50,000 on new IT systems in the past year, and plans a further investment of almost £750,000 in its vehicle fleet early in 2011.
