Peter Rodger, head of driving standards at the Institute of Advanced Motorists, says: "We don't educate road users enough about trucks or each other. Motorists don't know what truck speed limits are.
'We lack a culture of continual learning for motorists. It is entirely possible that there is a gap in resource and training about trucks.
"We educate road users about cyclists now, but there has been money and political weight behind that, which makes a difference."
Rodger feels that recent improvements in road casualty rates also "makes it harder to muster resources. But we must change the culture to one of self development'
