FOLLOWING upon the article "How Deflated 'Giants' May Cause Fire," which appeared in our issue dated April 17, comes news from Minimax, Ltd., Feltham, Middlesex, of a series of tests made by this company to investigate the efficacy of certain of its extinguishers in putting out tyre fires.
Three Minimax extinguishers were tested, the LT type, of one-gallon capacity which discharges a combination of froth and carbontetrachloride, the Ignex, in oneand two-gallon sizes, whieh is of the soda-acid type, and the Frowave one-gallon .device which discharges only froth.

For the test, two Firestone 32 by 6 tyres were artificially ignited with paraffin and thick oil, allowed to burn for a given time, extinguished in a measured time and cooled off with the remainder of the contents of the extinguisher. The results were as follow:—
Test 1, LT, 1-gallon: Burning time,
2 mins.; extinguishing time, 12 sees.; cooling-off time, 35 secs.
Test 2, Ignex, 1-gallon : Burning time, 3 mins.; extinguishing time, 13 secs. ; cooling-off time, 18 secs.
Test 3, Frowave, 1-gallon: Burning time, 3 mins.; extinguishing time, 19 secs.; cooling-off time, 22 secs.
Test 4, LT, 1-gallon: Burning time, 7 mins..; extinguishing time, 19 secs.; cooling-off time, 50 secs.
Test 5, Ignex, 2-gallon (the tyres were allowed to relight twice after tinguishment) : Burning time, 7 mins: ;.■ extinguishing time, 6 -secs, 3 secs. mid 4 secs.; cooling-off time, 72 secs,
