A local council has ordered a 24-hour transport cafe to stop serving hot drinks and food through the night to hungry truckers. David Craik reports.
PATS BIG BOYS CAFE, on the A453 at Donning-ton Park, has been told by North-West Leicestershire District Council that it must apply for a 'Premises Licence' if it wants to sell hot food late through the night to hungry truckers.
Lee Mansfield, commercial services manager at the council, is unrepentant. saying: "The owner has now applied for this licence but he won't get it until September 12 at the earliest."
Onc contributor to theTruckNet UK forum warns:"I can't remember the cut-off time on an evening but you can't get a hot drink or hot food until 5am.
"They can still sell cans of pop, crisps and cold sarnies but I asked for several different fillings and they had nothing in stock other than tuna."
The owners are applying for a 'temporary event notice' which will let them sell hot food and drink between llprri and 5am— but only for 15 days.
