As Euro-6 uses the same technology as US EPA 2010 (which came into force on 1 January 2010), a simple analysis would point to Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, DAF and Renault as being nicely positioned. Freightliner and Western Star – Daimler’s North American marques get to EPA 10 via either Detroit Diesel or Cummins engines, and Detroit Diesel’s DD13, 15and 16-litre units (above) are based on Daimler’s Heavy Duty Engine Platform, which is currently shared by Fuso and will be adopted by Mercedes-Benz for Euro-6. Volvo and Renault are also blessed by their relationship with Volvo Trucks North America and MACK, both of which use a transplantable Volvo product, while DAF has exported an EPA 2010-compliant MX to Peterbilt and Kenworth.
