• Wincanton Group has set up a joint venture agreement with Polish trading house Pallas for temperature-controlled distribution between East and West Europe.
Wincanton managing director David Yeomans describes the venture as very important for Wincanton, because it opens up business eastwards towards Russia. "We've already got the northern route from Rotterdam into Denmark and Scandinavia, and France and Spain, so we've got a fairly good part of the jigsaw in place," says Yeomans. Wincanton's aim is to have a pan-European perishables network in place by the mid-1990s, he says.
Wincanton's Dutch subsidiary Spronsen will manage the business, and, with Pollas, has bought 120 new Volvo artics and 150 trailers, mainly reefers. These conic on line in the next two months.
