• What size is the box and is the operation chill or frozen? Refrigeration capacity and air flow are critical in maintaining product temperature. The bigger the box and the colder the air needs to be, the more capacity is needed.
n. How many drops per day? Cooled air escapes each time the door is opened and a unit with enough capacity for 10 drops a day will struggle to maintain temperature on a 30-drop round.
• Will the vehicle be operating at night? Noise might be an issue at some delivery points—low-speed and super-low speed units can reduce noise by 10dB(A).
• Consider service and maintenance costs. There is no diesel engine maintenance on directdrive units, so service costs will be lower.
• Compare weights if payload is critical. Typical weights for directdrive fridges range from 110280kg; diesel-driven units typically weigh 300-400kg.
