• A Midlands haulier says he is losing over 12,000 a week in earnings following the impounding of his vehicle by police, after one of its drivers was witness to the M1 crash involving a tank transporter a month ago ( CM1925 June).
W Carter Haulage driver Keith Leaver saw the crash, which killed five people and injured eight at Junction 19 in Lutterworth, The transporter, operated by Poole-based Elliott Sergeantjack-knifed after it took action to avoid another vehicle, sending its cargo of tanks crashing through the central reservation into oncoming traffic.
Leicestershire Constabulary ilas held the three-month-old MAN TG410 driven by Leaver since the accident. 'We're currently investigating whether the vehicle was involved in the collision," says Sergeant Barry Middleton.
"There are a great number of witnesses and we need to find out what happened," he says.
