• Truck contract hire and rental firm Rocldield Contracts is on the verge of being sold to Walsallbased competitor Topmark Vehicle Contracts.
Last week Rockfield's parent Union International reached agreement in principle to sell the 430-vehicle business to the Southern Water subsidiary.
The sale, due to be completed within four weeks, is expected to increase Topmark's truck and trailer fleet to 1,630 and its net
work from two to seven depots. It will be Topmark's second acquisition in the sector this year: in January it bought a contract-hire business and 75 vehicles from Evans Halshaw in Birmingham.
Once Rockfield is sold Union International will be left with two truck firms: Bristol-based dealer WSM Motors and Liverpool. based haulier Dual Carriage. It began to dispose of its transport interests this year to concentrate on food processing.
