While all the chatter is going on about the strength of coach and bus bodies and their ability to stand up to roll-overs in crashes it is as well to remember that roll-over bars in psv bodies are nothing new.
Back in 1929 there used to be a firm called Hoyal Coachcraft near the old Brooklands track at Weybridge, who made motor boats, luxury car bodies and coach bodies, most of which went on to Dennis and Tilling Stevens chassis. Roll-over supports were built into their bodywork, though they were then called roof supports.
Hoyal bodies were very luxurious and also very heavy and Our Man in the North recently came acrost an old-timer who once operated one—and who described the interior as " like an Edwardian whorehouse"!
