• Drivers at one of Scotland's largest transport firms are to decide whether to take industrial action in pursuit of a pay The Transport & General Workers Union is preparing to ballot members at WH Malcolm following the company's 3.5% pay offer on basic rates. Drivers have also been offered a 2.6% rise in overnight subsistence and financial help for HGV medicals.
The union says other Scottish transport firms are offering 3.8%-4.1%: it insists that WH Malcolm can afford to pay more than 3.5%.
T&G regional negotiator Daniel Sharpe says: 'It was agreed at the Scottish joint Industrial Council that employers would pay at least 3.5% and that we had no objection if they paid more. WH Malcolm, one of the stronger employers, can afford to go above 3.5%."
T&G members have rejected the offer and Sharpe says the company is refusing to talk to the union, About 300 drivers will be taking part in the ballot.
