Using Gas Fuel or Bench Tests Afor the use of gas fuel when
MONGST the advantages claimed running-in new and rebored engines are that there is no possibility of fuel dilution, and, further, it is found that oil is retained on the cylinder walls to a greater, extent than when petrol is used. In the matter of cost, gas again scores as a 30 h.p. engine, running light at 1,000 r.p.m., has a consumption of approx. 130 cubic ft. of gas per hour, which represents a cost of about 44d. per hour with gas at 7d. per therm. With a correct mixture setting exhaust-gas analysis shows the presence of only carbon dioxide and traces of oxygen, carbon monoxide being absent.
The foregoing results have been obtained with the use of the G.L.C, carburetter patented by the Gas Light and Coke Co. This device, details of which are shown in the accompanying illustration, is fitted in place of the normal carburetter, and owing to the fact that the gas slide is suction operated gas flow ceases when the engine stops.
