• Moving to the private sector seems to be paying off for Unipart. It announced pre-tax profits of 27.3 million, an increase of 27% over the same period last year. Half-year sales rose from 2205 million to 2240 million and the E W holdings wholesaling business achieved a profit for the first time since it was acquired by Unipart in 1984. A management-led employe buyout wrestled control of the company from the Rover Group in January 1987. Aroun( half of the 4,100 workers own shares in the business.
