Dlengthy missive from the International Road Transport Union (IRU) details the, er, 1 achievements of its sponsored driver in this year's European truck racing season.
Raphy Garret from Switzerland sounds like a fine and fair fellow who does not care for "hostilities" with other drivers, particularly the "violence", coming from the MercedesBenz drivers in the Super Racetruck category. "Why should I touch another vehicle when you can defend your position without such caresses too?" he says rather puzzlingly
Actually winning races, however, does not seem to be Raphy's strong suite. "He may not always be competing for a place on the stands, but the regularity in his performances is noteworthy," says the IRU stoutly, "In the four heats of the championship in which he has participated up to now, he has made the finish in every race."
Sounds like he's got the general idea of the thing anyway. And he does have his moments. In the qualifying round for the Paul Ricard race, Raphy, we learn, drove "like a fish in water" (maybe this is where he's going wrong-ED) and finished third. Unfortunately in the actual race he could only manage seventh. Ah well, winning doesn't count for everything—as we Brits well know, It's the taking part that counts.
