• The mother of an owner-driver sentenced to 10 years in a Moroccan jail for drug smuggling has received bills for more than £10,000 from the company which hired out the jailed driver's reefer unit.
Sheila Bryant, mother of Steven, says she is "worried sick" about the bills from Roy Humphrey, of Yaxley, Suffolk. One of them is for £4,700 for sending two private detectives to track down the vehicle in Morocco.
Bryant cannot understand why Roy Humphrey employed the two detectives: "They rang up and asked me where the trailer was when Steven was first arrested and I told them.
"Now we get a bill for 11,400 every month for the hire of the trailer. I keep telling them there's no point in sending it to me, but they say they can't send it to Steven because he won't be able to pay it," she says.
A spokesman for Roy Humphrey says the corn pany was advised by its solicitor to continue sending the bills for the hire of the vehicle.
The company says the bill for the private investigators was sent to Mrs Bryant because the cost of recovering a missing vehicle is included in the terms and conditions of the hire. The unit has now been located.
