By George Barrow A NEW dual clutch version of the Fuso Canter goes on sale later this year as part of revisions to the Canter range that will see payloads increase, fuel consumption lowered and a new 6-tonne model added to the line-up.
Three GVW variants of the Mitsubishi Fuso Canter are due to go into European production in September, with a new 6-tonne model joining the 3.5and 7.5-tonne vehicles. Each will get new interior and exterior styling, and be powered by a three-litre Euro-5 engine producing 130hp, 150hp or 175hp.
Interior changes will see new instrument displays, a revamped heating and air-conditioning system, better cross-cab access and storage, new seats with lumbar support, and the option of suspension seats.
Outside the Canter gets a new three-part steel bumper with plastic corner sections.
An extra-long wheelbase model measuring 4,750mm for bodies up to 7,000mm has been added, and a version with an overall width of just 1,700mm will join the 3S (3.5-tonne) range. Payloads will rise across the board with increases of 85kg to 500kg depending on the model, while 7.5-tonne Canters are itted with a rear axle capable of a six-tonne load capacity.
A six-speed Duonic dual clutch gearbox, that allows manual shifting, will be available, while both transmissions will be able to beneit from the new stop/start system which can lower fuel consumption by up to 3%.
