THE ISSUE OF secure parking for lorries isn’t something new, and the French have addressed this issue with varying results.
The secure private facilities at Bezier on the south coast of France, based just off the extremely busy A9 autoroute, is excellent and the driver facilities irst class. We had to park on waste ground while the park was built, but it was worth it.
On my latest visit, I had the chance to look around. My initial thought was that someone had decided that keeping lorries and their drivers cooler might boost business, but closer inspection revealed that all the newly built overhead canopies were actually a solar farm. Every roof was covered in solar panels.
Now I wait to ind out if the revenue from the solar farm will allow for free parking. It seems to me that lorry parking is quite simple: get yourself a plot of land for lorry parking under the cover of a solar farm and get it all paid for by an EU energy grant.
