to leave the London Lorry Ban scheme at the end of March, leaving 19 boroughs to administer the scheme which forces trucks off certain roads for parts of the night and weekend. Kingston will run its own scheme.
Fraud fear • Some 3% of secondhand vehicles have had registration number changes, suggesting possible fraud, says a survey from vehicle research firm HPI. Nearly 50,000 CVs and cars have had at least one plate transfer since April 1990.
Injury fine • The High Court has awarded more than Lim against Maidstone-based Sandell Perkins Trading Company and its driver for a case five years ago in which a man broke his back while helping the driver unload.
Paperwork cut • From 16 March less documentation will be needed for goods moving between the UK and Portugal when Portugal becomes a full, rather than an "accessionary", member of the EC. Customs are also considering abolishing T2 forms for the limited range of commodities to Spain and Portugal subject to the Supplementary Trade Mechanism.
Licence rejection • The Government has rejected proposals for drivers to appeal to a DSS medical panel instead of a magistrates court following action against their driving licences on medical grounds. But the RHA is to continue lobbying for the change.
