nURING May the output of corn
rnercial vehicles was 20,426 units, a figure which maintained the average for the year, but was slightly below that for the corresponding period for last year. Despite the import restrictions in Australia and New Zealand, exports of commercial vehicles and cars continued at a high level.
The average weekly production figure for the month was 5,106 units, compared with 4,572 a week in April. Of the total output for the month20,426 units-12,015 were for export and 8,4l1 for the home market. Goods vehicles, road haulage tractors and special types totalled 19,667, of which 9,043 were under 15 cwt., 9,628 from 15 cwt. to 6 tons, and 996 over 6 tons. Passenger vehicles built during the
month totalled 708, comprising 548 single-deck and 151 double-deck motorbuses, and nine trolleybuses. Fifty-oh battery-electries were built, During the first five months of the year the production figure for vehicles was 102,768, 59,819 of which were for export, and 42,949 were for the home market. Goods vehicles, road hLi/age tractors and special types totalled 98.175, of which 46,738were under 15 cwt., 45,840 between 15 cwt. and 6 tons, and 5,597 over 6 ions.
In the same period .4,289 passenger vehicles were built, comprising 3,483 single-deck and 754 double-deck motorbuses, and 52 trolleybuses, Battery-electric vehicles totalled 304 and pedestrian-controlled detivery vans 366. The output of works trucks up to the end of April was 2,483 units.
Excluding dumpers and industrial trucks, exports for May totalled 14,937 units, their value, including dumpers and industrial trucks, being £8,576,748.
Excluding dumpers and industrial trucks, exports for the first five months of the Year totalled 67,229 vehicles, the total value, including dumpers and industrial trucks, being £38,958,097. During the same period, 1,935 used commercial vehicles (910,901), 52,948 agricultural tractors (20,111,404), and parts and accessories to the value of £40,643,018 were exported.
