• Transfrigo, a new refrigerated transport company based in Hull, is being hampered by a dearth of specialised fridge trailers, says partner John Barker, who previously worked for Daylay.
Barker will be joined by an as yet undisclosed partner in a few months. The pair have a combined 50 years of experience in international transport.
"We're running five trailers at the moment, using good ownerdrivers to take fresh hanging meat out to Europe and bring fresh fruit back to the UK," he says. The problem is not finding owner-drivers, it's getting hold of the right trailers on lease. CTR, TIP and the rest just have nothing available.
"When the recession began they seem to have stopped building them altogether," says Barker.
