• Sunderland Corporation transport committee has decided to ban smoking on single-decker buses until 7 pm each day for an experimental period of two months. Passengers breaking the new regulation will be liable to a penalty of £20. In the first instance the ban will operate until August 27.
• Seven villages in north-east Lincolnshire are isolated from this month by the withdrawal of three unremunerative bus services by the Lincolnshire Road Car Co Ltd. Mr L. J. Quitter, the company's traffic manager, stated that the routes were carefully coated and as the local authorities were not prepared to give financial assistance the services had to be cut.
