DOVER Harbour Board is "modifying the demurrage structure" from August 1.
From that date, free parking in the Eastern Dock for Continental arrivals will be limited to 24 hours. At present lorries and containers on trailers arriving from the Continent are allowed 48 hours.
From August, after 24 hours free, the charge will be £3 for each successive six-hour period up to a maximum of 72 hours in the port. Thereafter, an additional charge of £2.50 will be levied, making a total of £5.50 per six-hour period.
Dover expects to achieve a more efficient and intensive use of freight parking areas by these means. These new charges, it adds, are aligned more accurately with costs.
