Philip Murrell, trading as Philip Murrell & Sons of Upper Tumble, South Wales, Deputy Traffic Commissioner Alan Jenkins also disqualified the partner concerned, Philip Murrell, from holding or obtaining an 0-licence for 12 months.
In November 1997 Murrell was jailed for 12 months and ordered to pay £12,000 costs after pleading guilty at Swansea Crown Court to two counts of failing to declare profits earned by the firm. The Court heard that Murrell, who had kept secret bank accounts, owed the Inland Revenue £100,000 in tax and £53,000 in interest.
Murrell, who served six months of his sentence, told the Deputy TC that he wanted to continue to operate. He had not notified the Traffic Office of his conviction as he had "been away" for six months.
Revoking the licence, Jenkins said that the nature of the offences left him with no alternative. He suggested that Murrell's wife and son seek interim authority to operate to enable the business to continue.
