A STEP-FRAME trailer has been added to the range of steel TIR tilt bodies by Lawrence David Ltd of Crowland. Peterborough. It is a standard 40ft length which gives a load volume of 81cm (2,855cuft). Like the straight frame models, the step-frame tilt features pressed steel dropsides and timber side battens suspended between removable vertical posts. The step-frame trailer has the 685mm (27in)high steel dropsides arranged in a row of four on the lower main deck and a single one on the forward deck.
The posts locate in cant rail slots at the top, secured by shoot bolts which will unfasten only when the tilt is removed.
At the bottom, they are field in tapered sockets while the dropsides are secured to the posts by snap action over-centre spring catches. The first 10 of the new models are joining the rental fleet of Rentco Nationwide Ltd.
