• Quick but firm retention of roll cages in semi-trailers has been achieved by the use of swing down restraining bars fitted into 50 Tesco vehicles by Lawrence David.
U-arms pivot down from the roof to embrace and clamp the rows of roll cages.
The system has been redesigned by the Peterborough trailer bodybuilder to secure the extra row of three cages which can be accommodated since the trailers have been extended from 12.2m to 13.6m.
The new system uses five arms, two fewer than were fitted in 12.2m short trailers, and they operate faster.
As each group of nine cages is positioned the U-arm swings down and floor-mounted straps press it against them. The side arms stop lateral movement and accept the next batch of cages.
Full-length PVC curtains are two-coloured, with grey on the inside to reduce dazzle when loaders emerge into sunlight.
A moving bulkhead helps position loads so that axles are not overloaded, and the trailers have anti-lock braking with the Hope multi-disc anti-jack-knife device fitted on the coupling kingpin.
