an axle-weighing device which can be used while the vehicle is being loaded? I have to deal with conditioned dust (dust mixed with water) and we have a great deal of trouble unloading any surplus material if the vehicle is overweight. (I am not referring to built-in devices.) A One device that should meet your
requirements is the Checkweight produced by Hawker Siddeley Dynamics Ltd, Devonshire Works, Dukes Avenue, London, W4.
The Checkweight is a weighing pad which is placed in front of a wheel; the vehicle is driven on to the pad, and the weight on the wheel read from a gauge. To measure axle load, two pads are used; each one measures 15in. x 13in. x 3.125in. and can be carried either on the vehicle or in the boot of a car.
Apart from the Checkweight the company also manufactures an axle weigher based on the same components linked by a beam. Axle. load is read from a single gauge which can be remotely mounted. Also there is supplementary equipment designed tofacilitate the use of the Checkweight pads. The Checkweight costs £142, the axle weigher £478.
Also, Weighwrite Ltd, White Waltham Airfield, nr Maidenhead, Berks, produces a transportable axle-load device. It is a beam which can be located on any prepared site having a prefaced concrete recess which is covered over when not in use. A separate instrument head is connected via a cable to the beam and the standard equipment reads static loads only. The addition of a printed read-out module allows axle readings to be represented in the form of a graph which is traced out as the vehicle is driven slowly across the beam. A purposebuilt trailer can be supplied to lift, lower and transport the beam. The equipment, which has previously been described in CM (January 5 1973), costs around £1500 in its standard form, without trailer.
