Hand-operated welding guns with built-in transformers have been produced by Portable Welders. The S16 gun which is suitable for maintenance and light production work, weighs 27.51b and has a maximum capacity of 180 spots per hour with 2 x 2mm mild steel sheet and 800 spots per hour on 2 x 0.75mm sheet. Electrode-tip pressure is applied by squeezing a pressure lever against the carrying handle; a microswitch incorporated in the lever system starts the welding process.
The gun may be hand held, slung on a spring balance or mounted for foot operation and it is normally supplied for maintenance purposes in kit form with a selection of electrodes, etc. With a Mark III B control the price is £228.
For light production it can be fitted with water-cooled electrode arms at a typical cost of £273.50 including gun, arms, control, spring balance and overhead track.
