A SUFFOLK haulage firm sent all its tachograph charts for computer checking at a cost of 35p a chart, magistrates were told.
Any cases of illegal working were brought to employee's attention in writing by Philfreight Engineering, said defending solicitor Michael Gotelee, at Sudbury Magistrates Court.
But the Department. of Transport professional faultfinders picked up detailed discrepancies undiscovered by the !tartest firm.
Philfreight has sacked two of the three drivers connected with the charges of failing to use tachograph equipment correctly. Both had received previous warnings from the company. The company admitted all 15 charges of failing to use the tachographs correctly and was fined £125 on each charge. It was also fined £10C for failing to produce records, and 05 for using a vehicle ol excess length_
