THE POSSIBILITY of Sunday trading has added another twist to the effect on operators of the Greater London Council's proposed night and weekend lorry ban.
The controversial ban, if implemented, will stop lorries over 16.5 tonnes travelling in the capital between Npm and 7am all week and after lpm On Saturdays, unless they have an exemption permit. Sundays are banned all day.
I lead of the GLC's freight unit, Keith Buchan, told CM that the possibility of the Government legalising Sunday trading could have great implications for the proposed ban, and London traffic generally.
He said that, while it would be a year before there was any legislation on the extension of trading, and that it was too early for the GLC to comment properly, his colleagues would hold discussions with operators over how they would handle any trading changes.
