A CLEAR hint that the Government will go ahead with its plans to more than double tolls on the Severn Bridge has drawn a rapid response from the Freight Transport Association.
Welsh Secretary Nicholas Edwards told the Commons on Monday that it was "ridiculous" to suggest that the 150 per cent tolls increase proposed for the bridge would have a severe effect on the Welsh economy.
He added that the Department of Transport will make its final decision known soon.
An ETA spokesman told CM that it would be disappointed by such an increase. The increase was insufficient to solve the bridge's financial problems and would he harmful to local and regular users of the bridge, which is part of the M4 London-South Wales trunk route.
