• Bees Security Distribution, which was recently taken over by Rockwood Holdings, is shedding its casual customer base to concentrate on high security distribution.
"Those clients requiring only ad hoc collection and delivery and express parcel services are being transferred to Federal Express," says Douglas Dunbar, executive chairman of Rockwood Distribution. Up to 200 jobs will be lost at Bees as part of its rationalisation programme. Bees' depots at Edenbridge, Hinckley, Linwood, Morley, Sawston and Ballyclare will be retained.
Dunbar says: "Bees has concentrated too much in the past on one-off collection and delivery and express parcels work. Huge scale efficiencies are needed to succeed in that business today."
