• The Peterborough-based Ray Smith Group has invested 2250,000 in its new Dutch subsidiary, assembling jig-built demountable bodies from kits.
The new factory, in Dronten, will begin production with 3.5, 7.5 and 16-tonne demountable bodies for operation in Holland and Spain, but sales and marketing director David Browning says that as throughput builds up, an increasing proportion of parts will subse quently be sourced locally.
The subsidiary was planned eight years ago, Browning continues, and not specifically because of 1992. "We knew we would have to start making demountable bodies over there," he says.
"At the moment most Dutch bodybuilders have to devise their own systems when they are asked to supply bodies that are demountable", Browning concludes.
