MI Police helicopters swooped to catch lorry hijackers at Poplar, East London on Friday — thanks to the truck's vehicle tracking system. The thieves took the vehicle, loaded with 3.7 million cigarettes worth more than 2300,000, at Northolt on Friday morning. The driver was gagged, bound and abandoned in the gang's getaway van in London. He freed himself to raise the alarm and because the Datatrack tracking system, operated by Securicor, was monitoring the lorry's movements, the security firm contacted the police who followed the truck in a helicopter to arrest the thieves and retrieve the lorry in Dagenham, Essex.
